Bahamas-Baha Mar

Baha Mar Resort

You had me at hello!

Baha Mar was a fairly new resort in Nassau when we arrived in April 2018. This was a risk but at the same time I was hoping that meant crowds would be low, décor would be modern, and rooms would be CLEAN! It did not disappoint. The advertisements made it look like the perfect romantic Vegas-style getaway with a Casino and nightclub. While it did have all that, it was also secretly the perfect family resort as well!

Rooms

Just to reiterate, the rooms are gorgeous and spotless. At the end of the day I really just wanted a clean room to go back to and that is what we got! I will warn you we had a room with one of those adjoining doors. I would avoid those if at all possible as it sounded as though the people next door were sharing a room with us. Other than that no complaints about the room. It was a good size. The bathroom was large with a nice tub and wonderful shower. We had a balcony with an amazing ocean view.

Beach

The beach was stunning! It had the most magnificent colors as far as the eye could see. There was a pier and when you walked out far enough the water was so clear you could see plenty of fish. The resort offers plenty of free toys such as kayaks and paddle boards. It was nice that the water was so calm. It made enjoying these activities with two crazy little jumping beans much easier. In fact, one day while taking them out we actually saw sea turtles swimming around in the ocean not too far out. I have never witnessed that and it was something I will probably never see again. Needless to say we loved the beach.

Pools

Many Many Many pools to choose from! This kept the kids busy all day long. They had pools with music piped in through underwater speakers, quiet pools, pools with zero entry geared towards kids, a pool with a cliff to jump off and a grotto to swim through and view a little aquarium. I have never seen anything like it. The pools were not crowded and we never had any issues finding chairs as we pool-hopped the days away. One of my favorite surprises was that they had free sunscreen at the towel stations everyday for all to use. We would slather that on a couple times a day and it was so easy and convenient.

Food

You guessed it! This is where they get you as it is not an all-inclusive resort. We went in knowing this and were prepared to sell off one of the children. There are plenty of restaurants onsite with options for kids. It is a good idea to make some dinner reservations ahead of your trip just to be safe. Some menus are available online to view as well. For lunch we often would just eat light around the pool or food trucks by the beach. They offered many kid friendly options such as nuggets and fries which was perfect. The kids insisted on the buffet for breakfast every morning and I can’t say I minded. They had a lot of delicious options and it kept me full for most of the day. I should mention they do have a Starbucks if that is important to you. Also, there is a little hut near the walkway to the beach and food trucks that offers delicious frozen drinks.

Kids Club

When we went the kids club program was just getting up and running so I think we were the test subjects. At that time it was free in 3 hour blocks. We dropped our kids off and just kind of stood there wondering what to do with ourselves. However, I don’t even think the kids noticed we were gone. They went to an aviary and saw some birds. They went to the sanctuary and not only saw sea life but interacted with them. They pet a star fish and even fed a sea turtle. They did some art work and played some games and by the time we came to get them they could barely keep their eyes open. They had a blast. With that said, I think they were bored the second time around as it was more of the same stuff.

The Island

For some reason they don’t advertise it but there is a little island not too far away. A boat will take you there for free from the end of the pier. Be aware it does also share the island with some cruise ship passengers that get shipped in there. However, they have a separate roped off section just for Baha Mar guests. I believe you need cash for some things on the island. There is a souvenir shop, deli, and you can even swim with dolphins and sting rays. We relaxed and enjoyed the calm waters then my kids had a lunch that probably consisted of something like M&Ms and sprite.

Summary

All considered we had a blast and liked it better than Atlantis. The pools, beach, and grounds are beautiful and it was easy to get around. It does have a vegas feel with the casino and even dancing fountains set to music out front. That was a big hit with the kids so who can complain! Even better was that it was only about a 10-15 minute ride from the airport. The hotel even offered a car service with car seats (at an extra charge but it was worth it). We would go back!
