Yogi Bear’s JellyStone

Jellystone campground resorts have many different locations. However, this was our first time visiting and we decided on the Jellystone resort in Golden Valley NC (Bostic, NC). They offer sites for tent or RV camping. They also have many different cabins for rent as well as glamping tents! Since my husband is high maintenance, we splurged and rented a cabin.

Accommodations

We stayed in the Laurel Cove Lodge cabin. It had 3 bedrooms with 3 queen beds and a set of bunk beds. There were also 2 full bathrooms and a great kitchen! Everything seemed fairly new and very clean.

I can’t forget the Hot tub, which was the kids favorite part. My husband’s favorite part was the AC and TVs! There was even shuffle board in the cabin. I enjoyed the location. There was a little trail that led to the center of everything. We were in walking distance to most activities. Although, we still rented a golf cart which was a huge hit with the boys. We were debating between taking our bikes and renting a golf cart and glad we went with the golf cart as most people were buzzing around in these.

Activities

  • Hiking-We didn’t have enough time to do any hiking. There is some onsite. However, next time I am hoping to hop over to South Mountains State Park which isn’t too far away.
  • Canoe/Kayak: These are sitting on the banks of the lake. You can come and use them at your convenience.
  • Fishing: My boys were obsessed with this activity. We spent the majority of our time doing this. We only caught one fish. However, we hooked a large one that snapped our line. Therefore, we had to try to get revenge and catch one of the big ones! Which didn’t happen so we will have to go back again 😉
  • Swimming: They have a good size pool along with a little water park. Due to Covid-19, you do need to signup for a time slot to swim. I would suggest going to the general store as soon as you arrive to reserve your desired time slots. They are in 2 hour increments. After every 2 hours they shut down the pool for 15 minutes to do some cleaning. You stand in line to get in and they verify you have a reservation. Due to them limited the amount of people there were plenty of tables and chairs available.
  • Laser Tag: We didn’t get the chance to experience this but on our list for next time!
  • Mini Golf: This is self-serve and they have sanitizer available for you to clean the clubs and balls. My boys played multiple times and had a blast.
  • Gem Mining: Purchase gem or fossil bags at the General Store. Then just take them down to the Gem Mining area whenever you want. It is right next to the Mini Golf.
  • Crafts: They offer different craft kits through-out the day that you can purchase. We bought ceramic Yogi Bear piggy banks. It came with paint brushes and paints. Unfortunately, one didn’t survive….so I guess we have to go back. They also had tie dye kits available and more.

Please note that due to Covid-19, you do need to bring your own ball/equipment for the below activities:

  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis
  • Gaga Ball

Tips

  • Golf Cart: I recommend renting one. It was fun to zip around the campgrounds like this and the kids loved it. Just choose it as an Add-on when making your online reservation.
  • Linens: If you rent a cabin that doesn’t have linens, I suggest just renting them and making your life easier. I think it was $10. Again just purchase as an Add-on to your reservation.
  • General Store: They only allow 10 people into the store at a time. Due to this, there is always a line. I suggest going there as soon as you arrive to get any supplies you need and reserve your swim times.
  • Food: The store at the campgrounds has limited food and there didn’t seem to be a grocery store nearby. Therefore, I recommend planning all your meals ahead of time and bringing the needed supplies with you. They do have a snack shack that offered things like chicken tenders, pizza, burgers, ice cream, and fries. Unfortunately, it was often crowded with long lines. We did splurge and get the kids lunch there one day since it was right next to the pool.
  • Hot Tubs: We opted to rent a cabin with a hot tub. However, if your cabin doesn’t have a hot tub you can rent them!
  • Schedule: Make sure to check the event calendar for the time you are there. Here is a sample-

Would we go back?

HELL YES! I didn’t realize how good it was for the kids to get away. This was just what they needed. They got to run around being kids and not stuck at home all day with devices. At home, my boys have been fighting constantly. On this trip, they were the best of friends having so much fun together! It was just what my heart needed. I would go back to this place again. Especially since my kids are already begging to go catch that big fish that got away!!! I would also definitely try to visit another Jellystone location in the future.

    1. My favorite part was riding around in the golf cart. My boys favorite was the fishing!
